Relief for passengers as Flinders Street toilets reopen
Public Transport Victoria (PTV) thanks passengers for holding on as the main concourse toilets at Melbourne’s iconic Flinders Street Station received a complete refurbishment as part of the $100 million Flinders Street Station Upgrade Project.
The facilities were previously amongst the most complained about on the network and have been upgraded in response to passenger feedback submitted to PTV.
The new facilities are cleaner and more accessible than ever before and have been reopened on Friday in time for this weekend’s AFL matches and Open House Melbourne events.
The $100 million upgrade project has seen access to the station with faster Next Generation myki gates as well as upgrades to toilets.
Going forward PTV will be refurbishing the facilities on the Elizabeth Street end of the station as well as revitalising the iconic station with a series of improvements and building refurbishments to make the station easier to access and use.
Capacity in both the Male and Female toilets has also been increased to reduce waiting time during busier hours as well as improved access to the DDA compliant bathroom.
The entire project will be complete by the end of 2018 to ensure the iconic station is in ideal condition to serve the 200,000 passengers that pass through each day.
